SEO for personal injury lawyers, told straight

PI is the most expensive corner of legal marketing, which is why so much of what is written about it is written to sell you something. Here is the whole picture in four inputs, real SERP data on the one input we know best, and a plain statement of which single piece we sell. If you want the other three pieces, this page tells you what to buy instead.

The four inputs that decide PI rankings

Every PI firm outranking you is winning on some mix of these. Diagnosing which one you are losing on comes before spending on any of them.

Input one

The local pack, and the reviews behind it

For "car accident lawyer near me" intent, the map results take the first click. Proximity you cannot change; review count and velocity you can. A firm with 40 reviews does not outrank a firm with 700 there, whatever else it buys.

Input two

Pages that deserve the query

In the SERP data below, practice pages outrank homepages repeatedly. A real page per case type, written by someone who understands the claims, beats one homepage stretched across every keyword.

Input three, the one we sell

Authority: who cites you

Referring domains from real publications. This is the input with the widest spread between winners and losers in PI, the hardest to fake, and the only one on this list our packages address.

Input four

A brand people search for

Firms that get searched by name get treated differently. Brand volume comes from ads, cases and coverage compounding over years, and being quoted in the press feeds it from the side.

Scope, stated plainly. We do not manage Google Business Profiles, generate reviews, write your practice pages or run Local Services Ads. We sell input three. A vendor claiming to sell you all four for one monthly fee is spreading your money across four jobs and doing none of them at specialist strength.

What the authority gap looks like in real PI SERPs

We pulled the full top 10 for car accident lawyer in Chicago and in Houston, with per-page metrics, and published the tables in our link building study. Three findings matter for a PI firm sizing its own gap:

0 to 1,262

Referring domains to ranking pages inside a single top 10. Anyone quoting the number of links PI firms need is inventing it; the honest move is measuring the specific pages beating you.

DR 11 to 56

The full range of ranking law firm domains across both cities. The DR 88 monsters in your SERP are directories like Super Lawyers, not firms, and you are not competing with them for the same slots.

3 of 10

Roughly the slots in those SERPs held by directories and social platforms rather than firms. The winnable set is smaller than 10, which changes what a campaign is actually competing for.

The study carries the full tables, the methodology and the caveats, and it is the page to forward to whoever signs off on spend.

Why PI attorneys win at earned coverage

Our packages earn links by pitching attorneys as expert sources to journalists. PI attorneys hold better raw material for that than almost any profession, because the news cycle keeps asking their questions:

  • Every vehicle recall, highway redesign and crash statistic needs a liability explainer
  • Insurance claim denials and bad-faith patterns are perennial consumer-desk stories
  • Mass tort waves, from devices to chemicals, run for years and outlets cover every turn
  • Seasonal pegs never stop: winter pileups, summer pool liability, holiday DUI enforcement
  • Verdicts and settlements in your state are news your competitors are quoted about when you are not

A PI partner willing to say what a ruling means, in plain language, on the record, is a source journalists reuse. That reuse is the compounding engine the subscription is built on.

Which package PI firms pick

PI is the arms-race practice area, so the honest sizing runs a tier higher than other specialties.

When a PI firm should not buy this

  • You need signed cases this month. That is Local Services Ads and paid search, at PI's brutal click prices, not authority building
  • Your reviews are two digits and the firm beating you has three. Fix that first; it is cheaper and faster than anything on this site
  • Your site is one homepage with a phone number. Links pointed at nothing rank nothing; build the practice pages first
  • No attorney at the firm will be quoted publicly on anything. Earned media has no workaround for that

If none of those describe you and the gap really is authority, this is the piece we are better at than anyone selling you all four inputs at once.

PI-specific questions

How long until we outrank the firm above us?

Nobody can tell you honestly, because it depends on their pace as much as yours. What is measurable today: the referring domains of the exact pages beating you, and how fast they add more. If they add 20 a month and you buy a pace of 4, the arithmetic answers before we do.

Do earned links help the local pack?

Indirectly at best. The pack runs mostly on proximity, reviews and profile signals. Where earned coverage helps locally is the brand side: name searches, and citations that make the firm unambiguous to Google. Anyone selling links as a local-pack fix is aiming at the wrong input.

Can the commentary mention our verdicts?

Only what you are permitted to publish, and several states require disclaimer language alongside results. You set those constraints at onboarding and they bind every pitch. A verdict you can discuss is excellent raw material; one under confidentiality never gets near a draft.

Is this better than buying PI directory listings?

Different jobs. The big legal directories rank in your SERPs anyway, so a listing buys presence inside their page. Earned links build your own domain's standing. Firms with real budgets usually do some of both; firms choosing one should know a directory listing stops working the day you stop paying, and earned citations do not.

If input three is your gap, pick the pace that matches your market and judge us on the first report.
